You've Got a Friend in Me

Posted on Jul 5 2020 - 12:21am
Good morning Pack 3179 Families,

Of all the terms that are included in the Scout Law, friendly and kind are the oldest words in the Scout Law used in the English language. With usage dating back to before the 12th Century, a person who was friendly (and kind) must have been sought after during the Middle or "Dark" Ages. Everybody wants a friendly person to see or meet in their daily routine. Being friendly is not always easy, but a Scout should strive to be a friend to everyone regardless of their gender, race, creed, beliefs, or life preferences.

...and the home of brave!

Good morning Pack 3179 Families,

The last four words of our Nation's national anthem are "the home of the brave!" When we think of the word brave, images of a firefighter entering a burning building to save a person's life, or a soldier venturing out into the fight to retrieve a fallen comrade are conjured up.  In the world of a Scout, examples of being brave can be physical in nature, such as walking several miles to obtain help for an injured family member or riding a bicycle without training wheels, or mental in nature, such as telling a teacher the truth when even he or she may receive retribution from classmates or visiting a family member's house when he or she does not wish to. As we begin our 245th year in our Nation's history at the end of the week, bravery is never more important with COVID-19 and other problems facing us in the current day.  It seems as if we are being brave everytime we leave our home. This week, we salute many and multiple acts of bravery, both physical and mental that make our Nation 'the home of the brave.'

A Scout is Loyal

Posted on Jun 21 2020 - 12:05am
Good morning Pack 3179 Families,

Happy Father's Day to all dads today. This week highlights the second week of a twelve week series on the points of the Scout Law. Today, we will highlight our second point of the Scout Law: Loyal. In the Scouting Handbook, loyal is exemplified by a Scout being true to family, friends, leaders, school, and country. Loyalty can be demonstrated by a Scout being honest, trustworthy, supportive, and generous. It is the ability to put others before oneself even when times are not ideal. On this Father's Day, it is an excellent time to discuss the meaning of being loyal with your Scout(s).

A Scout is Reverent to the Flag. Happy Flag Day!

Posted on Jun 14 2020 - 12:01am

Good morning Pack 3179 Families,

Happy Flag Day! June 14th is Flag Day. What day is a better day to start with the first of a twelve week series on the points of the Scout Law.  Flag Day is one of the oldest commemorations in our country's history: it is the date the flag was adopted by the Second Continental Congress in 1777.  It is a date when the flag should be displayed on homes and businesses.  And today, it is the date we begin our first of the twelve points of the Scout Law: Reverent.

Congratulations on Another Year
